A Girls’ Getaway in Waterville Valley: Our Honest Experience at Golden Eagle Lodge

A scenic path leading to town center by a pond in Waterville Valley, New HampshireHey friends,

I just got back from a refreshing girls’ weekend in Waterville Valley, New Hampshire, and I’m excited to share all the details with you. This area is truly a hidden gem, offering breathtaking mountain views, crisp fresh air, and a serene escape from the hustle and bustle. However, like any trip, there were a few surprises along the way—especially when it came to our stay at the Golden Eagle Lodge.

Golden Eagle Lodge: A Beautiful Setting with a Few Surprises

A grand hotel building with green roofs and mountain views in Waterville Valley, New HampshireLet’s start with the Golden Eagle Lodge. Located in the heart of Waterville Valley, this lodge is surrounded by stunning mountain scenery that makes you feel instantly relaxed. The lodge itself has a charming, rustic feel, perfect for a cozy weekend retreat. We stayed in a one-bedroom suite that had a queen bed, a twin bed with a trundle, and a full-size Murphy bed in the living room—plenty of space for our group.

But here’s the thing: while the setting was absolutely gorgeous, the accommodations themselves were a bit of a mixed bag. The beds were less than ideal for a good night’s sleep, which was disappointing after our long days of exploring. And let’s talk about the air conditioning—or rather, the lack of it. While we were lucky to have cool weather that made it manageable, the room did get a bit stuffy, and I could see this being an issue during a summer heatwave.

We arrived to find no soap, shampoo, or conditioner in the bathroom, which wasn’t exactly the warm welcome we were hoping for. Thankfully, housekeeping brought us some the next day, but it wasn’t the best first impression.

Looking back, I wish I had known to bring a few extra comforts from home—like my own toiletries and maybe a portable fan. But hey, live and learn, right? Despite these hiccups, we managed to make the most of our stay and truly enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

The Waterville Valley Freedom Pass: Your Ticket to Adventure

One of the best parts of our trip was having access to the Waterville Valley Freedom Pass. If you’re planning a visit, this pass is a must. It gives you access to a variety of activities around Waterville Valley, making it easy to explore everything the area has to offer.

We took full advantage of the Freedom Pass with a visit to the White Mountain Athletic Club. Picture this: a lazy afternoon by the pool, soaking up the sun, chatting with friends, and just letting the stress melt away. It was exactly what we needed to recharge. And if you’re wondering about food—don’t miss dinner at Coyote Grill, located right at the Athletic Club. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was cozy, and it was the perfect spot to wind down after a day of adventure.

For those who are more into outdoor activities, the Freedom Pass offers plenty of options. Some of the women in our group went hiking and biking, taking in the beautiful trails that wind through Waterville Valley. The views were stunning, and the fresh mountain air made every step worth it.

A Simple Picnic by the Pond: The Perfect Low-Key Moment

One of my favorite parts of the weekend was something super simple—a picnic by the pond on the Golden Eagle Lodge property. We didn’t go all out, just threw together a mini charcuterie board with snacks we had on hand. But sitting by the water, surrounded by mountains, with good company—it was one of those moments that just felt right.

The pond area is a great spot whether you’re with friends, family, or even on a solo retreat. There’s a small beach that’s perfect for kids to play on, but it’s also a peaceful place for adults to relax and take in the scenery.

Final Thoughts: Waterville Valley’s Beauty and Hidden Charm

So, what’s the final verdict? Waterville Valley is a place I’d return to in a heartbeat. The natural beauty, the variety of activities, and the peaceful atmosphere make it an ideal destination for a girls’ getaway, a family vacation, or even a solo retreat. The accommodations at Golden Eagle Lodge had their challenges, but with a bit of preparation, those can be easily managed.

I’m already dreaming of coming back in the winter—imagine this place covered in snow, with cozy fires and warm drinks after a day in the snow. If you’re planning a trip to Waterville Valley, just remember to bring a few extra comforts from home, and get ready to enjoy one of New England’s best-kept secrets.
